okkervil river as a band..are as honest as they come.
when i first got into them with their previous album black sheep boy
it was so bloody difficult to find their stuff.
now..they have been all over the blogosphere(geek talk)
lately with their latest album the stage names.
why the sudden change?
these boys have actually always been the darlings of indie rock
but their latest album is definitely the most refined to date
and well.. the world seems to be responding.
for black sheep boy the band barely learned their songs before recording
and in their own words.. “to keep aspects of their performance raw, even ugly”
and “pull out something squirming, unsettling and grotesque”.
being true to themselves by being different all the time,
they tried out the stage names in an entirely different manner
they wanted a contemporary album with a general frivolity
so each song could be be like a gift.
so far it has been anything but unsettling or grotesque
and they give the mess of life some grace..
not stopping unless it kicks.
what a gift they have created.
