The first time Jenny Lewis went solo and not as part of Rilo Kiley, she teamed up with The Watson Twins for an exquisite offering. It was really really beautiful and chock-full of lovely, enchanting tracks.
Acid Tongue is her 2nd solo album and The Watson Twins are not joining the party this time round. But she’s brought on a wonderful group of artists to collaborate with her.
It is a great group comprising of Elvis Costello, She & Him (M.Ward & Zooey Deschanel), and of course her supposed squeeze Jonathan Rice. (Among others)
More after the jump.
Having such A-list musicians collaborating with her can hardly do her any wrong. She didn’t need them to glitter up the album, she is good enough going at it alone, but they are a definite plus to the positive vibes.
With Acid Tongue”, her second solo album, she has gone all Americana and Country on us. We always expect great things from Jenny Lewis, but few would have expected her to have done fragile, melancholic tracks this good.
It is a fresh new take on a old genre, and while the melodies aren’t as obvious as her first album, it will grow on you. The harmonies are subtle and reflect her maturing progress as a musician. This album may be rough around the edges but it is ultimately a gem.
