sunday sounds: skinny love with Bon Iver.

Bon Iver (pronounced bohn-eevair) is the stage name of indie-folk performer
Justin Vernon and he is an absolute obsession here at !tashed.

He released his album For emma, forever ago independently in 2007 and got picked up by the awesome indie label jajaguwar not long after, re-releasing it early this year.

If you can remember how iron & wine sounded to you the first time you heard them,
keep that in mind and add an insanely peculiar but incomparably perfect falsetto voice in its own right.

Thats Bon Iver for you.

With such vocals and such a myriad of images which comes to mind everytime his music gets played, he looks to be one of those greats in time to come.

Great expectations..but listen to him before you judge what i say.
Listen to skinny love just once and you will get so so hooked.

sunday sounds: black and gold

sunday afternoons are so lovely and fleeting.
its like the best thing that happened to you
yet it comes and goes when it wants to.
aaron schroeder sounds just like that.

black and gold is his second album
and he is as warm as the gentle sun
kissing your skin on a perfect beach going day.

again, i hate comparisons BUT if you like
belle & sebastian or voxtrot then you are
definitely gonna adore him.

set the woods on fire.

when azure ray was around, they grabbed my heart with two hands.
they have since split and squeezed the sanity out of my life.
they were soft, tender and absolutely comforting.
but enough with the pussy-driven comments.

orenda fink, better known as one half of azure ray has stepped out and stepped up with an amazing new album with a new band called art in manila.
does it fix the loss of azure ray?

sad to say, no.
but im more than happy to let you know this album is a gem in itself.
it has its own unique lush sound and it has powers to draw me back again and again.
its an album you need, not just want for the ages.

sunday sounds: ferraby lionheart

when ferraby lionheart sings, i honestly feel there is a crack in time.
sundays don’t sound better than his music.
there are flighty pleasures involved with his melodies
but everyone knows the timbre of his voice completes the sound.

words dont do him justice.
he is one of those who you find out about
and wish he could be your lovely little secret
but after a while ive come to realize..
not sharing ferraby with the rest of the world is
a terrible sin.

he is the reason why there are people like me doing what we do
going out and actually finding music that makes my red meat heart beat.
he has as tender a sound as you can find..
i absolutely dig ferraby.

his first full length album ‘catch the brass ring‘ was out on sept 4th..
before that he had an EP i was so mighty attracted to, i hid him from you guys.

sunday sounds: taken by trees

taken by trees is the solo project by victoria bergsman who was formerly
the lead singer of a personal favourite band the concretes.
the concretes used to make the most wonderful indie-pop gems
that sounded really happy and joyous like no other band.

It was really sad to hear victoria making the decision to leave the concretes
for good..her incredible vocals really completed the band.
however shes an intensely private individual who felt that she could
only create art better on her own rather than being in a band.(read the interview here)

open field is the first album from her project taken by trees
and theres much more melancholy to the album than when she was
with the concretes but its really still about her voice…
its that special and unforgettable.

you can listen to the rest of her album here but
please purchase her album here. its definitely worth it.

sunday sounds: great lake swimmers

the album art for great lake swimmers isn’t exactly the most appealing artwork
but my oh my dont be decieved..they are my latest indulgence.
some indie-folk/rock bands can get boring at times
but great lake swimmers are definitely melodic.
they deserve to be played on all your sunday afternoons.
having released this album in march this year
im a little late on the train to excellent soothing tunes.

springtime can kill you (part 1)

springtime can kill you.
heres a few albums to take note of in 07′
while you have a requiem.

1.rufus wainwright
yeah rufus covered leonard cohens hallelujah
but its still utterly overshadowed by jeff buckleys
his 5th full length release the stars though
is one hell of a record..and it just
makes me
so tired of america.
going to a town is political melodious pop
while not ready to love greets you lightly with touch of melancholy.

2.let’s go sailing
lets go sailing released their album late 06 and its not exactly a new release but
you really should have heard of them
having a regular spot on the greys soundtrack.
its real good knowing these stuff makes it to
primetime teevee.

the artwork makes it look real twee and sweet
but dont be deceived.its bloody heartbreak.

go forth and indulge
the chaos is in order.

3.lost in the trees

lost in the trees
might just be the most enchanting
band i have ever heard.
their charm has been growing
on me the past few weeks and
its wonderfully intense.

its fantastic having a strong orchestra feel to add to his indie-pop vocals.its gotta be on the soundtrack of some indie-film.

honestly, honesty never sounded this good.

the queer factor doesnt get better than this..
even bjork would applaud them.
cocorosie have been labelled as bizarre and creepy
some have even gone as far as calling their genre freakfolk.
its just deviant music which needs no labelling.

in all the uncertainty and apprehension of their music
you can only either love it or loathe it
there are no other ways around it.

well it happened to hit me
i didnt think much of it at first..
but it really captivated me one day.

its not exactly the easiest music to listen to
but when it hits you its like catching a glimpse
of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

5.sally shapiro
this is disco romance.
that sums it all up.
the disco princess manages to melt all of our hearts
with beautiful synths and the most tender of vocals.
if you appreciate synthpop you will adore her.
the easiest to listen to on this list
its a breather from all the heavy
music which demands your attention.

go on, drift away in her music.
you might just be by her side.

take your time to go through this list.
it deserves your time.

come sooner than you know.

i reiterate.please buy their music.
if you like them, they deserve your attention.

patience be to you.those who have signed up for the mailing list
i promise you will get some real good stuff
for being such a good crowd.

and finally, you gotta listen to this..
the inspiration for the naming of this post.
its impossible.
